what is a Turkish bath?

Turkish baths, or Hamman, come from the Arab world, but are also reminiscent of the ancient Roman baths. The Turkish bath has been practised in Middle Eastern countries for centuries, as a collective ritual in which friends or family members enjoy a moment of peace and tranquillity while they cleanse their bodies. In fact, the purpose of this bath is precisely this, to cleanse the body of impurities through the steamy baths that follow one after the other in different rooms.

Thus, the ritual begins in a first room with warm vapours so that the body begins to adapt pleasantly to a temperature higher than the ambient temperature, which is usually around thirty-six degrees. This is usually followed by a second room where the temperature is slightly higher (around forty degrees) and the body begins to sweat to eliminate toxins and cleanse itself. Finally, the session usually ends in a cool room, where you can enjoy a spring temperature of around eighteen degrees Celsius. Thus, with this sauna-like process of expansion and contraction, the body is left in a state of relaxation, calm and cleansing. In addition, if desired, most Turkish baths incorporate a further session of soapy baths to clarify the skin and perfume it; and many of them even offer the possibility of contracting various types of relaxing massages that result in an even more pleasant experience.

Benefits of a Turkish bath

Turkish baths have many benefits, both beauty and health. The value dilates the pores and eliminates toxins and impurities, producing a deep cleansing of the skin, revitalising the tissues and helping to delay the skin's ageing process.

They also provide therapeutic benefits, by moistening the airways helping to improve respiratory conditions and the warmth of the steam stimulating blood circulation.
