what is a therapeutic shower?

The use of therapeutic showers is a sensorial experience that provides great health benefits. These showers stimulate the body in the same way as a massage, using different procedures that combine the type of jet, the regulation of temperature and pressure and the presence of other techniques such as chromotherapy and aromatherapy. The type of jet used will in most cases determine the pressure at which the user receives the impact of the water. In this sense, we can find showers that expel water in the form of rain, pressure jets, waterfall, spray, impact bucket or multi-jet, which combines several jets. There are many different types of therapeutic showers and it is possible that they vary depending on the spa, but in general terms we can highlight

  • Scottish shower: Alternating temperatures and pressures, so that the circulatory system is reactivated and the tissues are toned.

  • Slug shower: This shower is very relaxing, as warm or hot water is used with a very low pressure, like a gentle caress that slides over the skin.

  • Affusion shower: This shower does not take place standing up, but on a special stretcher with an upper structure through which the water flows out. The temperature and pressure are adjustable, so it can be used to treat various conditions.

  • Cold bucket: This impact shower instantly stimulates blood flow. It is activated by activating the overturning mechanism of a bucket located at the top of the shower.

  • Mist shower: The atomised water creates an atmosphere that is both relaxing and stimulating.

  • Sensation shower: the effect of water at different temperatures is combined with chromotherapy and aromatherapy to create a feeling of total relaxation.

Benefits of a therapeutic shower

Each type of shower is indicated to treat a specific problem (stress, muscle tension, etc.). However, they can also be used as a water circuit. Temperature is another important factor in determining the benefits of each shower. Thus, cold water showers stimulate the circulatory system and tone the tissues, hot water showers relax the nervous system and muscles and produce a sedative effect and bithermal showers, which alternate hot and cold water, balance the circulatory system and revitalise the body.
